November 2017

Not posted lately – been busy on other things !. I have been up to the allotment every day as i have the hens to see to , but not done much work on the garden side , however , back to normal now so playing ‘catch up’ before the really bad weather sets in.
This year has been disappointing in terms of produce , i have not had a lot of success with many of the vegetables i have tried to grow . Not sure why , could be neglect, planted to late, not enough care and attention – but i am planning to limit what i attempt to grow in 2018, concentrating on the veg we will eat rather than just anything to try and fill the space. Success this year has been potatoes, peas, leeks, tomatoes, onions and soft fruit, others such as Cauliflower, cabbages, beans, broccoli and beetroot have been a disaster. I have got some Brussels sprouts growing , hope to have some ready for Christmas.

One side of the allotment is now fully prepared – dug over, weeded (as best i can) and some farmyard manure added – so hopefully next spring that side will be ‘good to go’.

The  Hens we have are still laying really well, i was eggspecting (see what i did there !!) the laying to stop or reduce by now. We are still getting 3 eggs per day from the four hens so really happy about that .
I planted some potatoes for  Christmas in the polytunnel but i dont think they will grow in time – other than that the polytunnel is also ready for next season. I am thinking of re positioning the polytunnel and hen run and hoping to get a greenhouse next spring . We will wait and see what happens.
